If Walls could talk - Bringing the Landmauer of Gamsen to life

Join the fourth Valais Wallis Time Machine Hackathon!

Are you a 3D designer, illustrator, developer, historian, archaeologist, data scientist, data analyst, science or cultural facilitator, designer or simply passionate about cultural heritage and hackathons?  

Join us on August 23-24, 2025, in Brig for a unique interdisciplinary hackathon dedicated to one of the region’s most iconic historical sites: the Landmauer of Gamsen.

OBJECTIVE

Develop creative digital solutions that promote and enhance the Landmauer of Gamsen. Using historical data, participants will design innovative prototypes that make the site more accessible and engaging , especially for children and families, through technologies such as virtual tours, 3D modeling, augmented reality,  games or any other solutions your team will wish to prototype.

CHALLENGE

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Landmauer Gamsen Foundation, this hackathon invites participants to develop fun, educational, and digitally engaging prototypes that help a wider audience connect with the site’s rich heritage.

Criteria for Success
 To meet this challenge, proposed solutions must:

  • Be innovative and tailored to the needs and interests of children and families.

  • Demonstrate creativity through the use of digital technologies (apps, augmented reality, games, etc.).

  • Be feasible and implementable within a limited budget of CHF 50,000.

Expected Outcome
The ideas are to be implemented in the form of prototypes that the Landmauer Gamsen Foundation can potentially realize. Participants will have the opportunity to present their concepts to a jury of experts, representatives of the foundation and specialists from the fields of technology and cultural heritage. Prototypes will be showcased during the foundation’s 30th anniversary weekend on September 13-14, 2025.

Teams

Register solo or in groups; teams will be formed on the first day of the hackathon.

Prize awarded to the most innovative teams.

  • Meals will be provided, with accommodation options available on request. Easy access, just a few minutes from Brig train station.
