Hackathon Verbier Time Machine
JOIN THE SECOND HACKATHON OF THE VALAIS WALLIS TIME MACHINE!
Are you a 3D graphic designer, illustrator, developer, historian, or simply passionate about hackathons and wish to contribute to an event bringing the latest technological innovations to the dynamic world of cultural heritage?
The Valais Wallis Time Machine (VWTM) Association is organizing an interdisciplinary hackathon from November 18th to 19th at the Espace Saint-Marc (Le Châble) on the theme: Landscapes of the Val de Bagnes: the village of Champsec before and after the Giétroz disaster.
Goal: recreate the landscape of the village before and after the disaster.
In 1818, the valley was hit by one of the most significant disasters of the 19th century: the Giétroz flood. On June 16th, the overflowing Drance de Bagnes, laden with ice, mud, rocks, and wood, ravaged the Val de Bagnes all the way to Martigny, causing dozens of deaths and considerable damage.
Historians have gathered data on the inventory of goods lost in the village due to the disaster. Plans, maps, engravings, and period texts are available. This data can be combined with Swisstopo's terrain model to revive this lost landscape. This data will be provided to participants before the hackathon.
Register individually or in teams: teams will be formed on the first day of the hackathon.
The winning teams will share a Prize Money of CHF 5,000.
Dates: from Saturday, November 18th at 8:00 AM to Sunday, November 19th at 6:00 PM
Location: Espace Saint-Marc, Le Châble
Practical information: Meals are provided by the organizers, with the possibility to sleep in a dormitory on site upon request. Easy access just minutes from the Châble train station.
Registration deadline: November 10, 2023
